Monthly Theme: Excellence

Week 2

This week I was to view how I can facilitate a culture of excellence in my workplace, look at our current organization values, describe what excellence looks like and how to further a commitment to excellence.

“…leaders display a passion for the possibilities of a better, brighter, more productive future….passion and dissatisfaction drive a leader to excel.” (Intentional Leader, p.41)

I must admit, the term excellence sometimes is used so easily in the world of education. I have read countless visions and missions all with the word “excellence” embedded in them. I also have wondered what truly excellence means in each of their contexts. Do the schools or school divisions have great stories to tell of the ways that excellence in learning has occurred around them? For me, it’s a drive to always want to make learning and leading better, more effective and more….(yes, I’m going to say it)….excellent. Take, for example the Disney story where animators on the first ever animated plus real-time video movie, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, were reviewing a particular scene that wasn’t quite right. In the scene the character bumps his head on a lamp which then swings but originally no shadows were displayed. Most audience members would have not caught on to the missing shadows, yet animators were relentless in spending many hours to fix the error. The nickname for excellence in Disney animation became “Bump the Lamp”. (To the see the actual scene, click HERE.)

We can use the phrase, “Bump the Lamp”, to remind ourselves to aim for excellence. Most people won’t notice the excellent part of what we do, but certainly some will and those people will share their experiences to others.

Some examples of “Lamp Bumpers” in PSD:

The teacher who writes notes in students’ journals or blogs.

The administrators who find time in the school timetable for teachers to meet in order to plan more effective learning opportunities or PD for teachers.

The sharing of a good learning experience with a large audience (tweeting about a school event, blogging about daily learning, sharing a story in the school newsletter, inviting divisional employees to school activities).

The administrator who believes in arranging the learning environment in a new way with no grade levels for all students to benefit.

The teachers that engage students digitally and model ethical online practices.

The facilitators who not only offer professional learning opportunities but also teachable moments during their sessions.

Our organization values are:

Collaboration and engagement with students, parents and our communities. Our successes are not possible without these contributions.

Trust and mutual respect among all of our education stakeholders.

Inclusion and diversity within our schools.

Citizenship and recognize our central role in guiding students to understand their responsibilities and their place in the world.

Leadership in all places – everyone in our Division has the potential to be a leader.

Excellence, innovation and risk-taking.

As one can see above, PSD incorporates “excellence” as one of our values. I believe that we need to share more “excellence” stories so that we can see the experiences and influence this has within our organization. I am thankful to have a Communications Director who is now starting to share these stories on our division website.

What does excellence look like in my role? I hope that my ability to ensure that teachers and administrators questions and support opportunities are allowing their staff and students to move forward in their learning environments. I also hope that my own PD, committee work and networking is allowing further connection to the latest research and resources for PSD staff to tap into.

Excellence is not achieved overnight, it is a journey and it takes time to deeply internalize it. Take time to view this video on Everyday Leadership.

Drew Dudley will be a keynote speaker at the upcoming ATLE (Alberta Technology Leaders in Education) Convergence Conference in Edmonton.

I leave you with this….what does excellence look like in your role? In your organization? What are some ways you can encourage your team to further its commitment to excellence?

Monthly Theme: Relationships

Week 4

It is the end of October and throughout Canada, schools will be starting their Remembrance Day and/or Veteran’s Week preparations. This time of year, teachers and students are remembering the courage, sacrifice, leadership and relationships that have been affected by war and peace in the World. I am reminded that our military ‘demonstrates a certain reality of interdependence of leadership and relationships’ (p.31, Intentional Leader). Each leader within the military has a specific duty and the more influential that leader is, the more he/she relies on the relationships within their team to maximize their work. The best leaders are the ones work side by side with their colleagues and success is gained through the support and skill of all of the team members. For this week, I was to review individual ambitions versus team agenda, valuing of ideas, and relationship investment.

I am fortunate that I have a team of people within my department to rely on, yet I also have other colleagues in other departments and school sites that I am also able to connect/share/query ideas. As I think about my main Learning Services Team, we all have our individual ambitions and personal growth plans yet we are focused on supporting our district vision and its initiatives. This allows our team to move our projects forward in an effective manner. In the past, when I think about someone who failed to sacrifice a personal agenda for the good of a team that I was part of, it was:

- Frustrating

- The project took longer

- Communication between members broke down

- Outside sources were unable to trust the group

- Main goal(s) were not reviewed on a regular basis (more transparency).

It wasn’t until a new leader came aboard and a review of work in progress was articulated that the group members were able to re-adjust for the good of the team.

Valuing others ideas comes with strongly built relationships.

- I can remember that my first mentor-Principal sat me down and said that I would make a good Masters of Education candidate. The way he pulled out my interests, my present work, etc. made me really think about a professional direction that I had not thought of beforehand. (I did pursue my M.Ed. in Educational Leadership – I have fond memories of our cohort and the extreme learning that took place!)

- During a SLItech (Supporting Leaders in Integrating Technology) PD session, team members indicated that they were wanting a change in the way the PD was being laid out for them. As leader of this project, I asked for feedback and then adjusted the work accordingly. This resulted in a more effective learning opportunity for the team.

- At present, my current team members have specific duties and responsibilities in supporting the work in PSD. Although each member has a specific focus, they definitely overlap and result in many internal collaborative opportunities.

- Our Learning Services Team develops through offering PD, sharing PD opportunities, engaging in PD, sitting on various committees and working /learning collaboratively.

Investing time in others doesn’t take much effort. Performing a small act of kindness for a colleague, family member or friend is as easy as:

- Buying a cup of coffee/tea/hot chocolate

- Baking a loaf

- Making muffins (I know, my first three examples involve food….for the majority this is a good thing!)

- Brushing off snow on a car parked all day

- Writing a thank you note or email

- Sharing your small heater for a cold office

- Saying that you appreciate them

Investing in people and contributing with small acts of service strengthens the team and allows you to get to know individuals in a more personal manner. A more synergistic team will result of these actions.

After viewing the video above, can you think of how you can perform a small act of kindness?

Monthly Theme: VISION

Week 4: A Guiding Vision

Visions endure

…..hmmm, how can I ensure that PSD’s vision of making learning exciting through exploration, creativity and imagination so that all learners aspire to reach their dreams takes hold in the work that I do? This week is looking at leaders who have established an enduring vision that continues to hold true even when they are no longer part of the organization.

When one is asked the question to reflect on memorable leaders who have finished well and have left behind a continued vision, I am sure that many of you can come up with 5-10 people instantly. Some of these leaders could be political figures, business persons, family members, etc. Ask yourself, why did you choose them? What did each of these leaders leave behind? As for myself, I found that the leaders on my list where memorable because of five main things. They were:

1) Caring – they care about their role in the organization and take it seriously. They also care about relationships and employee impact on the organization. They want everyone to succeed.

2) Truthful – they share the truth specifically designed for each individual, no sugar coating! They care about you being the best you can be.

3) Confident – a leader with a solid self-esteem is not afraid to allow others to succeed. Just because they are in a leadership position, memorable leaders reveal that they do not have all of the answers and that’s OK. They are confident in what they know, what they are constantly learning and are always connecting with various experts found within the organization.

4) Human – leaders are human and those willing to show and admit their mistakes are easy to trust and follow. People can easily relate to that vulnerability and therefore support the incredible amount of work that is asked of them.

5) Passionate – even in the most challenging situations, leaders who are strong, supportive and collaborative are unforgettable.

If you have time, (about 20 minutes), check out Itay Talgram’s TEDtalk on Lead Like the Great Conductors which showcases my five memorable leader points beautifully. I believe that leaders see the potential in people, cultivate their strengths, develop individuals AND groups. See how these conductors pull out the ‘essence of potential’ (as I call it) within their orchestras.

In my own areas of growth regarding different components of the vision (definition, communication, continuity, strategy, commitment), I need to take and make more opportunities to link the daily work that I do with the PSD vision. (Yes, I commented last week on this, but it IS important.) However, how and what resources should I be taping into to grow in sharing and committing to this vision? This I need more time to reflect on besides this week. (I hope to share this further on in the year.)

Besides my own reflection, this week I was to also talk to three people that I work closely with and who are familiar with my work. They were to give me some honest feedback about if I left the organization, how would that impact the vision of the team and PSD? One person said that in order for me to leave, it would be prudent to allow for transition planning and time for another person to take my place. They believed that the work that I did as Curriculum Educational Technology Facilitator was very important and supported the work that administrators and teachers do every day. The second person said that PSD would need to find another person with my same passion and expertise of connecting learning with technology. And the third person remarked that they did not want me to leave so they did not want to discuss it! J It made me realize a few things:

I am making an impact at various levels and I feel appreciated.

I need to continue to equip team members, administrators and teachers with my knowledge and skills so they can continue to support teaching and learning. (I need to share even more with my Learning Services Team members? Do I share enough?)

I don’t have a transition plan in place and maybe that is something that could be thought about.

This month of September had me concentrating on being alert and attentive towards VISION. This takes a lot of intentional work on my part and with the people that I work with and connect with. I know where I am going, but inspiring others to join in on the voyage is also important. Actively listening to others and paraphrasing so that I get a clear understanding of where people are at in the VISION process is also very important. ( I need to do this more often!)

What excites you about your vision and the future? What are you hoping for?

Monthly Theme: VISION

Week 3: Trumpeting the Vision

Unless a vision is communicated clearly and consistently then it gets “lost in translation”. One can see this loss in the funny movie starring Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson and Giovanni Ribisi where Bill is an actor who doesn’t have an understanding of the language and Scarlett is a young woman with no idea of where and what she wants to do with her life. These two characters highlight the need that with respect to vision, “leaders ought to err on the side of repetition – repeatedly speaking it, celebrating it, and linking it to action” (p.12, Intentional Leader).

As PSD embarks on sharing its new vision with stakeholders and the public, it is important that each of us review this vision. I need to communicate it during my workshops, sessions, Learning Coaches and Key Contact meetings, planning meetings, PD opportunities. I also need to actively listen to participants, colleagues and the public as to what PSD’s vision means to them. Although this vision is shared via an employee newsletter, a journal at the Division PD Day in August, on the PSD website, on YouTube, Twitter and in Face2Face gatherings, what benchmarks should we be using to recognize if this communication of the vision has been effective? Polls, surveys, and/or discussions, possibly.

PSD has 4 key elements that guide the work (and the vision) of the school division:

Engage our students

Engage our staff

Engage our community

Stewardship of our resources

I need to keep these elements (and the vision) in mind , when planning my activities with staff and my Learning Services team members. What does this look like in my Curriculum Educational Technology Facilitator world? It also means time to dialogue with people as to what they believe the vision means for their work, celebrating the successes and sharing them with others in the Division. It means articulating that vision and truly owning it…..DAILY. I think I should read the PSD vision every day to myself so it is a reminder of what I am working for and with. For those of you not familiar with the PSD vision, here it is:

Parkland School Division is a place where exploration, creativity and imagination make learning exciting and where all learners aspire to reach their dreams.

My hope is that this vision allows our stakeholders to find their true selves such as Janet Echelman’s story. Janet is a painter turned sculptor.

I would be curious as to any suggestions of how others utilize and promote their VISION. Comments are always welcome!

Today is the day before our two day Teacher’s Convention and I am busily finalizing various projects, emailing, updating, calling, attending webinars, etc., since I will be out of the office until Monday morning (well, physically, that it is…..I still have my BB and computer devices at my disposal .) Yet, throughout this organized chaos I took 15 minutes to watch this TED Talks video by Christopher McDougall. It wasn’t a link sent to me but in my work this morning, somehow it popped up in front of me and it intrigued be even before I viewed it. Perhaps it’s because I like to run – I enjoy it even when the cold weather hits (however the ice and snow really have stopped this for me and I don’t enjoy the feel of a treadmill below my feet.)

Chris goes on to explain about a marathon runner from Ethiopia and a tribe who partake in running for pleasure, for physical well-being, with compassion and for competition.

What has running got to do with education?

In our work with students, teachers, administrators and parents, we are indeed running an ultra marathon of sorts. We need to insert compassion, competition and a desire to do better in what we do in education not just run off or around in circles.

Running is a social activity, it can be a cooperative yet competitive opportunity for us instead of a solitary one where nothing is gained nor learned in the process. Running reminds me of a quote from a senior high school student that says, “I feel like I’m on a road at a huge intersection with thousand of streets yet I’m at a loss. There is no one to tell me the way, no “911″ in the real world. You can’t just call up and say, “Hey, I need a destination, I need a place to go.” Even if someone did tell me where to go, I wouldn’t listen. Sometimes I feel like I’m going nowhere. Sure I’m on the Santa Monica freeway, but where am I going in life?”

What are we doing to discover ourselves and our desires into increasing the sense of community within the school environment?

I continue to work on my commitment to listening, learning and teaching about my journey in education, in my community and in the world that surrounds me. Maybe this is why Chris’ video “popped” up at me today. I needed a break to reflect on where I have been going, where I am at and what I want to do.

How about you?

In the past few days I have read a number of blogs discussing some type of resolution(s) for this upcoming year. Being one that really has not “set” or wrote up a number of resolutions for January 1st the blogs were all a good read and I enjoyed how some eloquently wrote up their thoughts and action plans for 2011. I do set up action plans throughout the year which keep me going. Once I reach a goal or two, then others are set or renewed…that’s how it’s worked, until I read @azjd’s blog on Courage. It was as if Jeff was speaking directly to me, “you know this is a great way for you to choose ONE WORD to inspire you throughout 2011 – I dare you to do it!”

I reread his post then went over to @gritandglory’s original blog discussing her 2010 path with her ONE WORD resolution because I was intrigued by this post. It was a novel idea to me. In education we attempt to K.I.S.S. (keep it simple silly) when learning, why not for a resolution too?

Now came my turn to think of ONE WORD for 2011. What was I going to hang my thoughts, reflections and actions onto? ONE WORD, could I really achieve and work with one instead of a few goals? Wow. With a bit of brainstorming and a look at an earlier poster that I had up on my office wall in 2010, I had found my ONE WORD or I think; it had found me. It’s not a new word, but I believe it to be a bold word; one that I can rely on to keep me grounded and engaged for the whole year.

My ONE WORD for 2011 is – EMPOWERMENT!

Fom Wikipedia, Empowerment refers to increasing the spiritual, political, social, or economic strength of individuals and communities. It often involves the empowered developing confidence in their own capacities. (I really like that statement!)

With empowerment, I plan to:

Gain skills and knowledge to overcome challenges in my life.

Access info and resources for decision-making.

Consider a variety of options before making decisions.

Exercise assertiveness in collective decision-making.

Think positively when making a change.

Inform and influence others through communication and collaboration.

Understand that self-growth is never ending.

Increase my positive self-image.

Share, share, share with others.

Grow my PLN.

Challenge my assumptions and re-evaluate my thoughts, values and being.

Continue to promote digital, media and information literacy as a means to communicate within society.

Engage others to manage their learning, leading and teaching.

Experience and actively gather amazing memories.

Live life full of risks and learn from my experiences.

Be of service to my family, friends and colleagues.

EMPOWERMENT is my ONE WORD for 2011, what is yours?

I have been lucky to attend the Western Canadian Educational Administrator’s Conference for a decade now. Each Fall, when the conference is held in Edmonton, hundreds of administrators, teachers, senior executives, politicians and facilitators have a chance to mingle, network, share and have the opportunity to meet together for a few days.

This year, I counted approximately 30 people from Parkland School Division attending! I imagined them all sharing their thoughts and comments on their workshops in a common area so I sent out a GoogleDocs page for people to input information.

What worked: some did view the document and were impressed of the information that was put into the document, and some added to the document.

What didn’t work: not knowing ahead of time who was all coming to conference, I couldn’t send out a welcome to the GDocs page that they could use if they brought their laptops or smartphones.

What I would like to do at future conferences: find out who from PSD is attending and propose a sharing of notes. It’s always great to view and read someone else’s thoughts during/after a session.

Overall, the sessions at WCEAC were varied, the food was good, the vendors were polite, however, I may suggest:

To set up a criteria for presenters for the type of presentations we would like. I, myself, understand that when a presenter has authored a book, they want to get the word out, however do not continue to refer to it during the session several times. Maybe ADD this book to the session (I’ll pay for it through the registration process?) and I can take away more information rather than the publicity.

As well, let’s have the handouts and powerpoints for the sessions already online so I can click on them to either: follow along, refer to, ask questions, write down some reflections, etc.

Overall, I valued the time spent with colleagues, mentors and new friends.

I just received the latest Tech News newsletter from Alberta Education. There are always great tidbits, resources, and the latest tech news found in this newsletter. Feel free to subscribe yourself at http://www.industrymailout.com/Industry/Subscribe.aspx?m=16941. The following videos were showcased in this latest newsletter and they are not to be missed!

Since May 2010, I have had the opportunity during various conferences, workshops and meetings to view each of the videos below. First off, they are quite polished and one is able to hear the thoughts from students, teachers, parents and research gurus. Secondly, they are short enough to share with a group of teachers who are looking to further engage their students.

21st Century Learning: Technology in Education Videos

Alberta Education has produced a series of videos to illustrate 21st Century learning in Alberta. The five videos show how Alberta schools are currently using a variety of technologies for teaching and learning. They include:

This slideshare, which I first shared with a group of administrators in our very own Supporting Leaders in Integrating Technology (SLItech), is hosted by Seth Godin and various contributors. It is chalked full of great slides that administrators and teachers can share, learn from, explore and reflect on throughout this school year. They are all free to share and so good that I copied my original SLItech blog and posted the info here as well. These slides WILL make an impact on your thoughts and actions this year. Some specific slides may even make a deeper connection! Some of my favorites include 5 (Seth Godin); 15 (Michael Hyatt); 19 (Chris Anderson); 20 (Tom Peters); 25 (Dan Pink); 50 (Chip and Dan Heath); 60 (David Weinberger); and 63 (Todd Sattersten).

Seth Godin (5) writes about our opportunity to make a difference where “people will gravitate to you. They want to engage, interact and to get you more involved.” This, in turn, allows a more deep connection. In our schools we really should work towards this, as Seth remarks, “You touch people or projects and change them for the better.”

Michael Hyatt’s (15) vision reminds us that we need to keep this in the forefront of what we do, say and share on regular basis within our school division, our schools and in our communities. Too often, “vision is the first causality” when too many other things are beckoning our time and effort.

Chris Anderson (19) is genius on “atoms.”

“Anybody with an idea and a little bit of of self-taught expertise can set assembly lines in motion in China with nothing more than some keystrokes on their laptop… they are a virtual microfactory…. the collective potential of a million garage tinkerers is now about to be unleashed on the global marketplace. “Three guys with a laptop” used to describe a web startup, but now it describes a hardware company too. Peer production, open source, crowdsourcing, DIY and UGC– all these digital phenomena are starting to play out. Now the revolution gets real.”

This is the global society our students are part of, and we must challenge them, support them – be those three guys with a laptop – and respect that many of them already are, or infinitesimally close to becoming so.

Tom Peters (20) offers 19 E’s of Excellence, and it’s my favorite slide. I think I am going to post this one in my office.

I adore Dan Pink (25). His piece is on Autonomy, an excerpt from his new book, Drive. “After a decade of spectacular underachievement, what we need now is less management and more freedom– fewer individual automatons and more autonomous individuals.”

Chip and Dan Heath (50) write on Change. “Stop agonizing about what’s not working. Instead, ask yourself, “What’s working well, right now, and how can I do more of it?” Classic.

David Weinberger (60) reminds us that that, “if we listen only to those who are like us, we will squander the great opportunity before us: To live together peacefully in a world of unresolved differences.”

Finally, Todd Sattersten (63) writes about one of my favorite movies – The Karate Kid. We must remember to obtain focus, to inquire and to “be present”.

Our challenge in education in the SLItech project is to integrate learning into the digital-age where students, administrators, teachers and communities are active, engaged and motivated to connect to daily.

**Please share and make comments on your favorite slides!

The setting is beautiful Banff. It has welcomed us with sunny weather, a great facility (Banff Centre) and many good conversations.

Feel free to follow or even review some of the comments found on twitter with the hastag #emerge2010

Sunday

* Dr. David Merrill’s keynote on Physical Blocks for Digital Play spoke about the history of technology in music, games, education, etc. Educational software over the past three decades has changed quite a bit, however this 32 year old prof still believes that the “one-point” experience (that of using a mouse to control one little cursor) is really not the most effective way of interacting with today’s digital content. If you recognize David’s name, it may be because of his infamous TED talk from a couple of years ago surrounding Siftables.

Monday

* Dr. Bob Thirsk’s keynote this morning centered around his experiences with the Canadian Space Agency and the International Space Station. He also tied these events with the knowledge, skills and attitudes required in a classroom setting and the critical role that teachers play in engaging students. Wonderful space pics of the earth!

* For the rest of the day, workshops were available to attend. As well, I presented PSD’s Journey for the first year of the Supporting Leaders in Integrating Technology Project. My topic was Digital Bootcamp for Educational Leaders. I had two glogster posters: one with an intro of where PSD sits in regards to technology integration and the other showing some of administrators/tech leaders discussing one of the NINE effective strategies. We also worked in our group and individual thoughts on a collaborative TitanPad site. As well, the magazine report on issuu was a hit – good info shared through this medium! (Now I need to review this report for its final draft and ‘polish’ over the next few days and hand it in to Ralph at Alberta Ed!!)

* iLead: Shaping Learning Communities that Fit the Needs of 21st Century Learners – Jeff Johnson. Working with leadership in ECSD. A few wonderful videos with admin, teachers and students discussing 21st century learning. As well, he used of COSN’s Learning to Change, Changing to Learn video to garner discussion with leaders. Resources such as www.metiri.com, p21.org and BernaJean Porter and ISTE learning site http://istelearning.org/ info to plan for change with a specific focus for each admin.

* Student-Centered Graphic Organizers: Using Technology to Organize Thinking and Represent Understanding - Danny Maas. Students are able to develop their visual literacy skills and content knowledge using various graphic organizers. Graphic org – books: The Art & Sci of Teaching, Classroom Instruction that Works. 4 types of graphic org: compare/contrast, concept mapping, cause&effect, classifying. Great graphic organizer tools – prezi, bubbl.us, powerpoint, edu glogster and popplet.

Tuesday

* Dr. Marlene Scardamalia’s keynote on Environments and Assessments for an Inclusive Knowledge Society shared some of the research she has been involved in for the past 18 months. www.ikit.org – building of site and resources as per knowledge building and assessment. Interesting that new knowledge creation is not identified in any framework for 21st Century Skills.

* Enhancing the Capacity of Ed Leaders w/ Dale Howard - the researcher reviewing the Supporting Leaders Theme 1 project.

*seeing what jurisdictions are doing, does this change their capacity and knowledge on technology?

Vision – promoting successful school leaders in AB

Mission – admins will recognize the potential of new and emerging tech and enable their meaningful integration in supporting teaching and learning

CASS Study 2010 on application of 21st C learning technologies

http://o.b5z.net/i/u/10063916/h/Pre-Conference/cass_lit-review_final.pdf

Results of initial participant survey:

Response rate – 84%

PD – 69% directly involved, 30% not

Satisfaction w/selection of PD activities – 53%, neither sat nor dissat – 43%

Satisfaction w/ sequencing of PD activities – 50%, neither sat nor dissat – 48%

Not challenging enough – 8%,

Time allotted – satisfied – 35%

Actively promoting digi citizenship – 23%

20 characteristics of tech leadership – 50-60% vision and strategic planning, digital-aged culture,

- 60-70% modeling, evidence-based practice, policy

- 75% tech integration at local level, facilitating staff dev, promoting/modeling responsible social interaction

What does it mean to be a digital-aged leader?

Three fields of knowledge from Friesen and Lock 2010 – practitioner, new, public. Do you feel with this intense PD have you made some leaps in your knowledge?

* Richard Tapp discussed his involvement in the 1:1 ESL student program in Calgary. Shared that the ESL group was half of a class, all students in class received a laptop and resources were at their fingertips such as iLife, iWorks, GarageBand, Audacity, Inspiration, Discovery Education, visual thesaurus, dictionary, and MS Office suite. Students liked having access to the laptops 24/7 and confidence was boosted in showing their learning in a variety of forms. His presentation found here.

* Terry Godwalt’s infectious passion for Canadian Global Education had me attend his session. Working with TIGEd, Terry showed a variety of ways that teachers can provide authentic global learning experiences through webinars, webconferences, and videoconferences. AS well, it’s free and fits with our school division priorities since it has connects high schools virtually with grad students, Four Nations classrooms, Change for Children, VC for Hope = supported by Ctr for Global Ed

* Bob Regan’s keynote right after lunch kept us engaged and laughing. His topic was on Technology in the Classroom: Going form Disengaged to Digital. He had great visuals, a good story and pertinent research to share.

Quote: “Going to school is like being on an airplane – turn off devices, sit down, stare ahead.” As well – research from Manpower ’09: While more people may be looking for jobs, they don’t have the skills needed. Some scary info: each dropout costs the nation $260,000US. There are three stages of tech: lab, classroom and then access anywhere….and now informal learning (could be a 4th stage?).
